Description
The Symposium on Disability and Ministry is an annual opportunity for pastors and ministry leaders to engage in issues related to disability and ministry.
This year’s theme is Disability and Mission, with a plenary lecture by Dr. Rochelle Sheuermann of Wheaton College, entitled Disability and God’s Mission: An Invitation to Evangelism.
Central to a theology of disability is trying to make sense of where and how disability fits within God’s mission. As we explore God’s story from this perspective, we will discover a Good News story that is good news for people of all abilities and that invites each of us to use our whole dis/abled selves to share this story to the ends of the earth.
This symposium, at Western's campus, Saturday, July 13, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm, includes breakfast, lunch, and a time for networking and is FREE to all participants.
Dr. Sheuermann’s plenary lecture, along with the community worship, will be available via livestream.
The Symposium on Disability and Ministry 2024 is hosted by Western Theological Seminary's Center for Disability and Ministry.
About Dr. Rochelle Sheuermann
Dr. Rochelle Scheuermann has been active in vocational and lay ministry as an ordained minister for almost twenty-five years. After serving as an associate pastor in a Salt Lake City church plant, Dr. Sheurermann returned to academia, earning an MDiv and a PhD before embarking into higher education where she has been for the last 13 years. She is currently Associate Professor of Evangelism and Leadership at Wheaton College Graduate School, where she directs the Doctor of Ministry program and serves as a Department Chair. As the mom of a son with Down syndrome, Dr. Sheuermann is especially eager to help the church develop a robust theology of disability so that people with disabilities are not only welcomed into the church but are included in the work and witness of the church as essential members.
